Lesson One: Never outshine the master

Never outshine the master
If you aspire to be a great man, it is important for you to know you should not try to outshine your master. There is no one that attained a high position today without being a subordinate at one time or the other. Even if your father was rich and you inherited from him, you would have received tutelage from someone.
Whoever you worked with is who I am referring in this context as your master. Always make those above you feel comfortably superior! This is not to show you are foolish, it is to set the stage for your take over without raising any suspicion. Make your master more brilliant than they really are so as not to inspire fear and insecurity into them! It is important to know however that trying to make your master look less brilliant might result in your death.

Example:
An artist in the olden days who sculpted for he king made a portrait, the portrait was so good that everyone that saw the portrait admired it and encouraged him. When the king saw the same portrait, he complained it was not well sculpted! The sculptor had the option of convincing the king it was good like that but from experience, he decided to be diplomatic! Well said, he told the king, that part you complained about will be done again immediately! What the sculptor did was to pretend he was doing something on the portrait, he now told the king to change his position and look at it again. Without changing anything, the king congratulated him and paid him handsomely.

There is this other man who sculpted for the king, the king complained about the portrait’s nose. The man argued with the king that doing anything to the portrait will spoil the work he had been doing since and make the portrait useless, the king disagreed with him and maintained his position. He didn’t do anything to the portrait and the king sent for his head! After all, he was the one paying the money, his orders should be adhered to.

From the two examples above, its obvious wisdom is important in dealing with your master. Whoever pays you is your master and though things might not go well if you do them the way they want but you should let them assume they are in control when in the real sense, you are!

P:S I will continue posting on this blog if I get encouraged by your comments. If there are no comments, I might not be encouraged to continue blogging on this subject.
